My writing is a mix of articles I've written on my own for free and articles I've written as a freelancer for various clients. The things I write for free are things I wanted to write about for the reasons listed above, so I'm not so concerned about the money in this case. But for paid writing opportunities, I always work to ensure that the gig is worth my time.
